Cost to design and permit the conversion of a garage into an accessory dwelling in Oakland

Sharmila and Tejal came to New Avenue for help in converting their detached garage to an accessory dwelling unit with a loft bedroom, kitchen, full bath, and living area. They wanted to keep the building at its current square footage and height.

A New Avenue design professional visited the site and discussed Sharmila and Tejal's goals with them. Once the building is designed and built, Sharmila and Tejal plan to rent it out to family and friends.

The design and permitting budget came to $22,375 at the time of design. Today, the design and permitting phase of this project would cost $25,730. You can view this budget below.
