Cost to design and permit a two-story addition to a home in Berkeley

Deirdre and Liz came to New Avenue looking to add a two-story addition to the rear of their two-bedroom home in Berkeley. They wanted to use the additional space for their family (which includes children and four dogs) and for entertaining.

The ground floor of the design includes a family room and dining room with easy access to the existing kitchen. Thanks to the new space, Deirdre and Liz were able to upgrade their kitchen by adding a pantry and new cabinets.

The addition's second floor houses a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a master bathroom. Having this suite on the second story means easy access to the existing attic storage.

The total cost for design and permitting was $30,388 at the time of this project. In 2020, the budget would be $34,946.00. You can view the entire budget below.
