These clients for this ADU in Oakland, CA bought a large old home to live in a co-housing type setting. To accommodate a new family, they added a two story modern accessory dwelling in the backyard with the unique features including an ipe roofdeck and bridge to the second floor kitchen in the main home. The project was designed to have a social connection between the units with the two kitchens facing each other so you can wave to your neighbors while preparing a meal. The private spaces include offices, living area, bedrooms, and outdoor areas.  

In the main house, the clients remodeled the massive lower floor with high ceilings and over 1,000 square feet of living space. In addition to the social connection that motivated the owners, they are earning a steady income from three new and distinct spaces. It's an optimal use of this massive old homes - and one of the smartest projects we've been a part of.
