An old cow barn behind a 100+ year old home was about to collapse, and the owners were looking for additional space for a home office and guest room. We replaced the old structure with this detached bedroom, office, and living room with a design that can be converted to a full accessory dwelling unit in the future by adding a kitchen. We maintained the existing building's footprint, which sat on both the side and rear property lines. This allowed the owners to maximize their backyard space.
