Cost to design and permit a two-bedroom accessory dwelling for rental income or an aging parent in Los Gatos
When Carl decided to build an accessory dwelling unit in their backyard, he contacted New Avenue.
His immediate plan is to rent the building out as soon as it is built. Later, if one of his parents or in-laws needs it, he'll be able to move his aging family member in and enjoy a multigenerational living situation.
Carl informed New Avenue's project manager that he prefers a more hands-off approach, allowing New Avenue to handle the details. To accommodate his preferences, New Avenue's designer handled interactions with the city of Los Gatos, making changes and resubmitting plans as necessary.
Since there's a pool in the backyard, there wasn't a large space to work with, but New Avenue's design professional designed a two-bedroom home that will fit well around the existing home and will be a comfortable place to live.
The design includes a kitchen, living area, and foyer. There are two toilet/sink rooms that are both adjacent to a shared, accessible shower.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom home will work nicely both as a rental home and as a home for aging parents.
The cost to design this home in Los Gatos was $23,217.71. You can view the full design budget below.
