Cost to design and permit a one-bedroom ADU with basement and outdoor living area in Mountain View, CA

With a growing family and aging parents, Elaine knew she would soon need more living space on her property. So she started her project by contacting New Avenue.

Elaine's vision included a one-bedroom accessory dwelling unit with one or two bathrooms, a bedroom/living area, and a basement. Our New Avenue design professional created a beautiful ADU that the family will be able to use as a place to play both indoors and out. With the functional space, ample storage in the basement, and luxurious outdoor amenities, it will be easy to attract renters for the unit in the future.

The basement includes a large open area for storage or family activities, a utility room, and a half bath. On the ground floor there's a bedroom/living area, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a washer/dryer. Outdoor amenities include a dipping pool, an outdoor shower, a an outdoor living area with a fire pit, and a dining area.

Elaine was truly thinking ahead when she decided to add an ADU to her property. This is one that will serve the family well for many years and will become a source of income when it’s rented out later.

The design and permitting costs totaled $22,051.00 at the time of the project. Today, design and permitting for this project would cost $25,358.00. You can see the full design budget below.
