  • Bachelor of Architecture - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Cate’s design philosophy revolves around the ways in which architecture impacts and is impacted by humans. With minors in psychology and geology, she defines architecture as the intersection between the two.

Cate graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May of 2021. Most of her school projects involved adaptive reuse, vacant lots, and analysis of the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of architecture. Her thesis considered how the longevity of the built environment would be impacted by the active involvement of the user in the design process, across a multitude of programs.

Cate believes that the most important responsibility of the architect is in listening and problem solving in a focused and conscientious way, and she keeps this at the forefront of her work at New Avenue. She is especially interested in residential design in its capacity to create intimate, safe spaces that allow people to be their truest selves.

A Place I’ve Called Home

This is my backyard in Bakersfield, Vermont! The chickens are all inside by sunset, but they would usually be front and center.
