We're delighted to share a new project we're working on with a visionary Bay Area couple. Like many California homeowners, they love their neighborhood but need more space. When we first spoke with them about their project, we learned that they had some great ideas for transforming their house into a home they'll love.
New Avenue worked with them to design their dream home—a place where they can live, work, play and, when the time is right, live next door to family.
These homeowners understood that a great ADU would be just the thing for their home, so they contacted New Avenue to transform their property.
Here's what we designed together.
The Breezeway Chalet
The Breezeway Chalet is a clever combination of a storage structure and an ADU. The new two-story ADU includes 556 square feet of spacious, flexible living space, giving the family a place where loved ones can stay and office space where they can work. Across a gorgeous breezeway is 156 square feet of thoughtfully designed storage space for the things the homeowners need and love.
This building is an ultra-elegant workhorse with the ability to do it all.
A Home Office, an Open Kitchen and Living Area, and a Flexible Bedroom
The first floor of the ADU has a kitchen/living area with plenty of natural light. The space above the living area is open, giving the room a spacious feel. Plus, there's plenty of room for a desk so the owners can use their ADU as an office.
The second story includes a bathroom and a bedroom with a walk-in closet. A Murphy bed makes the ADU even more flexible.
Easy Storage for Everything the Homeowners Need
When they're ready to take their bicycles out for a ride, the owners can simply step out into the breezeway. There's space for six bicycles and easy access to the street.
The ground-floor storage area can accommodate large items and a workbench. The design incorporates large bins and space to hang items, making it easy to organize and access anything the owners want to store.
These homeowners have everything they wanted: a convenient place to store their bicycles, a large storage area, a quiet, well-lit office, and a beautiful guest home for family and visitors.
Spectacular Outdoor Space
Outdoor space is important to the owners, so we made sure to maintain as much of the existing space as possible in designing their ADU. Outdoor features include a hot tub, a beautiful boardwalk, and a spacious garden area for the homeowners and their guests to enjoy.
Custom design means you can do anything.
This kind of flexible, multi-use ADU is a concept that works almost anywhere. The Breezeway Chalet is a custom design that's similar to projects we have done in Menlo Park, Redwood City, Oakland, San Jose, Orinda and Walnut Creek.
