Cost of a custom home in Silicon Valley

Custom homes are some of our favorite projects to work on. They are fun because we get to work closely with clients to develop a design that is perfect for their lifestyle, their families, and their goals and ideas. We recently completed a construction bid for a 2,886-square-foot custom home in Los Altos, CA.  This is the heart of Silicon Valley.

This project will be completed for just about $1,125,000 and was a little less than 3,000 square feet.  That is just the construction budget and does not include the design, engineering, and permitting costs. You can typically budget about 20% of the construction cost to cover these soft costs. In this case they came in at about $200,000 for a full project cost of $1,325,000.

The original structure is a small ranch home that will be torn down and rebuilt as a 3-bed, 4-bath house with an office.
