Alameda Historic Remodel

Project Cost = $1,764,562
Size = 5,000 sf

The clients of this home had a wonderful two story condo near Dolores Park in San Francisco, and with two four-year-old boys, they needed more space. Not wanting the long commutes caused by living in the suburbs, they found their perfect community in Alameda, CA. They bought a fixer in the historically significant Gold Coast neighborhood. The home was cared for during the previous 50+ years with one owner, but it was time to update everything to meet the needs of a contemporary lifestyle.

To preserve the historic character of the home, the redwood wainscoting and period details were removed, restored, and reinstalled. The most significant change included increasing the livable space. The house originally contained 3 bedrooms and 2 baths within 2,682 square feet of finished space. We added a third-floor attic conversion and finished the entire basement into a recreation area to increase the home to almost 5,000 square feet. With two work-from-home parents and two growing kids, all of the extra space is incredibly useful.
